about

recorded in Slanty Towers, Preston between 2011 and 2012 when times were real rough after the stroke. I began this project in 2011, then went back to uni in 2012 to improve brain function; all the while I just wanted to be in the studio sharpening my mic attack. EPonymous was the project when I realised I needed to work a lot harder to bring my skills back. Thanks to Jason for your honesty around this time. Original release was eventually shelved due to the scheduling of Agency Dub Collective's Beggars Belief album (3oB's last on the mic with that group). These lyrics were performed live with Sub Detonator rhythms on the East Coast tour of 2013 and some verses appear on 'More isn't Less' (Sub Detonator, 2019); others were re-booted for the Like it or Not EP (3ocloc Bogey, 2017).
Thanks to Ishu for the great mixing job (my vocal tone is particularly rough on this record as I lacked core strength after my stint in hospital).
All disclaimers aside, this record is what it is - a record of an event.

Known for his role as emcee/front man of Agency Dub Collective, 3oB has been a prolific underground rap artist for many years in the dub and hip hop styles. For a decade he has been honing his skills as beat-maker and rhymer. Notorious for his leftist politics and advocacy of Palestine and West Papua freedom movements, the Eponymous sees a change of tack from his work with ADC. The concept is that a series of short blasts of punchy verses and only minimal hooks flash like aural inkblots, rather than lengthy tirades against Babylon Oppressor.
3oB's beats are plenty dub: ripe with analogue bass, tweeked-out synth, live guitar and keys, samples, and echo effects. In this atmosphere, Bogey spits rude battle-style rhymes with political messages more buried than his usual fair. You might call the style semi-conscious.
Seven tracks seem over before they began as Bogey jibes at the current dominance of short-term memory with punky, skeletal song structures.
3ocloc Bogey wrote and recorded the entirety of these tracks after suffering a cerebral abscess in 2009. This has been the biggest influence on his new musical direction, yet is only hinted at in his lyrics.
The Eponymous will be available on download only as Bogey promises to follow-up before year's end with another 7 track cracker.
